Effect of Diuretics: Last minute revision

The given table indicates excretion of each electrolyte. This has been given wrongly in almost all the guides. Stick on to this table to get the question right.

Also remember:

Mannitol reduces Renin levels
Loop diuretics and Thiazides raise Renin levels.

Maximum Sodium excretion is seen with Loop diuretics
But
Maximum risk of hyponatremia is seen with Thiazides. (Reason not known)
(Often tested in all examinations)

▪Most sensitive noninvasive Ix = USG
▪IOC = Chest X-ray Erect
▪Best Ix = Chest X-ray Erect
▪Gold standard Ix ( but usually not done ) = CT
▪An erect chest x-ray is the most sensitive plain radiograph for the detection of free intraperitoneal gasin an EMERGENCY setting. On chest X-ray, any subdiaphragmatic free gas can be seen.
